11月9日 The Pratchett PostThis was planned in my head as an update to the Pratchett post that I wrote back in February but it's slowly turning into the Pratchett post. Firstly some cool resources for all things Discworld: The L-space Web can be found at: http://www.lspace.org - this is a great resource for the books, quotes information on games, the graphics used, FAQs, etc as well as general news. It's great for all Pratchett fans! The person who has done a lot of the artwork for the Discworld novels is someone called Paul Kidby. I think that his images are key for capturing the characters, context and place that is the Discworld. This can be found at: http://www.pjsmprints.com/ The Pratchett Podcast (please let it be the first of many, please!!!) can be found here: http://www.colinsmythe.co.uk/terrypages/tpnewsfolder/tpnews050906.htm I haven't heard it et, but, hey, it's the Man!!! Colin Smythe is the formal publisher of the Pratchett books - and all fan should be grateful that that they have. They've got some good pages on their Pratchett specific site: http://www.colinsmythe.co.uk/terrypages/tpindex.htm I've found some weirdness regarding a Java add-ins so make sure that you get this at http://www.java.com/en/. Well onto the actual point of this post. Back last year (I can't remember when!) I started on a major quest to read through all of the Discworld novels as they were published The key resource for reading through the Discworld is found at L-Space Reading Order Guide. This is the High-Fidelity-reordering-your-lp-collection-biographically (no effing way!!!) and is worth looking at and reading through - it certainly makes sense - the only thing that I would caution with this that some of the threads would cause boredom! So as of my Pratchett Post last February, I was at Maskarade, which was a good read. I'm now 5 books further in and reading through Carpe Jugulum a vampiric tale involving our favorite witches but also a new member who was, funnily enough picked up in Maskarade! In this time a new book has been published so this is now added to my list! The series is great! There's so many great lines, so many brilliant stories, so many truthful parodies! One story thread highlighted on the Reading Order Guide is the Industrial Revolution - these are primarily some later stories and are especially good - they seem even better when the other threads are continued through as well. I feel bad for the hiatus - that I had to have a break when I hit the lost continent (I put this partly down to a certain teenage wizard, some hallows that were, apparently deathly, and the OCD to then read all five books back to back!). Having said that, I've came back refreshed, enjoying the trials of Rincewind in the aforementioned book and now picking up the stories of Miss Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg et al! The other area that I am thankful for doing this is that some of the others that I tried but didn't get into was the We Free Men - it was interesting to pick them up In Carpe. Hopefully it will make going back to it a lot more enjoyable. Here's to another 12 odd books and plenty more to come! 2月8日 Terry Pratchett... AKA Tha Man!I'm currently on a marathon of getting through all the Terry Pratchett books in the Discworld series. Ive just completed Interesting Times - the return of Rincewind and now ploughing on into Maskarade.
It's brilliant in every way possible. I think I'm gonna have to re-read them just to get some good quotes to pull up! |
